Seamless Multiscale Modeling of Coagulation Using Dissipative Particle Dynamics

چکیده
We propose a new multiscale framework that seamlessly integrates four key components of blood clotting namely, blood rheology, cell mechanics, coagulation kinetics and transport of species and platelet adhesive dynamics. We use transport dissipative particle dynamics (tDPD), which is the extended form of original DPD, as the base solver, while a coarse-grained representation of blood cell’s membrane accounts for its mechanics. Our results show the dominant effect of blood flow and high Peclet numbers on the reactive transport of the chemical species signifying the importance of membrane bound reactions on the surface of adhered platelets. This new multiscale particle-based methodology helps us probe synergistic mechanisms of thrombus formation, and can open new directions in addressing other biological processes from sub-cellular to macroscopic scales.

Dissipative Particle Dynamics simulation hydrated Nafion EW 1200 as fuel cell membrane in nanoscopic scale
The microphase separation of hydrated perfluorinated sulfonic acid membrane Nafion was investigated using Dissipative Particle Dynamics (DPD). The nafion as a polymer was modelled by connecting coarse grained beads which corresponds to the hydrophobic backbone of polytetrafluoroethylene and perfluorinated side chains terminated by hydrophilic end particles of sulfonic acid groups [1, 2]. Each f...
متن کاملTargeted Mollified Impulse: A Multiscale Stochastic Integrator for Long Molecular Dynamics Simulations
Molecular dynamics (MD) is widely used in simulations of biomolecular systems such as DNA and proteins, systems which are multiscale in nature. However, current time stepping integrators are not able to address the time scale problems. Multiscale integrators, in which the presence of “fast” modes does not affect the time integration of “slow” modes, are pressingly needed in light of the fast gr...
متن کاملSeamless Multiscale Modeling of Complex Fluids Using Fiber Bundle Dynamics
We present a seamless multiscale model and an efficient coupling scheme for the study of complex fluids. The multiscale model consists of macroscale conservation laws for mass and momentum, molecular dynamics on fiber bundles, as well as the Irving-Kirkwood formula which links the macroscale stress tensor with the microscopic variables. The macroscale and microscale models are solved with a mac...
متن کاملNovel approaches to multiscale modelling in materials science
Computational modelling techniques are now widely employed in materials science, due to recent advances in computing power and simulation methodologies, since they can enable rapid testing of theoretical predictions or understanding of complex experimental data at relatively low cost. However, many problems at the leading edge of materials science involve collective phenomena that occur over a ...

Prediction of Surfactants’ Properties using Multiscale Molecular Modeling Tools: A Review — During one of the existing Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) procedures, a mixture of Alkaline/Surfactant/Polymer (ASP) is injected into wells in order to move the trapped oil from the reservoir to the wellbores. The conception and/or the tuning of new ASP combinations, structures of surfactants and/or mixture...
